Our Goals

We’re taking a closer look at our commitment to education—at what we’ve accomplished and what’s yet to be done. See our goals for supporting education.

Reading Matters

Education is a longtime focus of Target’s community giving—and when it comes to causes, it’s by far the top priority of our guests.

At Target, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to graduate from high school and reach his or her full potential. That’s why we’re on track to give $1 billion for education by the end of 2015.

A significant portion of this giving will fund programs and partnerships that help more U.S. children reach one of the most critical milestones on the path to graduation: reading proficiently by the end of third grade. In fact, research shows that at the end of third grade, school curriculum shifts from learning to read to reading to learn, and that students who can't read at grade level by this time have trouble keeping up, and often fall behind.

Target has been a great supporter of our efforts to improve education.
